Billing & subscription

How your subscription works: plans and the free trial, payments and invoices, sales tax, and how to cancel or reactivate. Everything billing-related in one place.

Plans & free trial

Every account starts with a free 30-day trial. No credit card is required: you pick a plan, and the trial starts right in the app. You get the full feature set of the plan you chose, so you can evaluate exactly what you'd be paying for.

During the trial you can switch to any other plan at any time from the trial bar at the top of the app (Try another plan). Switching is instant and free, and it does not change your trial's end date. Each account gets one trial; it cannot be restarted.

We send a reminder email 3 days before your trial ends, so the end never comes as a surprise.

Buying a subscription

When you're ready, use Buy now in the trial bar (or the plans page) to subscribe. Checkout opens in a secure overlay provided by Paddle, the merchant of record for all purchases: your card details are entered there and never touch Magic Schedules. Buying during the trial ends it at that moment and your subscription starts immediately.

When the trial ends

When the trial ends, access to the app pauses and you're taken to the plans page. Your schedules and data are not deleted: we store everything for 30 days. Subscribe within that window and you continue exactly where you left off. If you don't, your data is deleted automatically; we email a warning 3 days before that happens.

Managing your subscription

Everything after you buy a subscription happens in the Billing Portal, a secure page hosted by Paddle. During the free trial there is nothing billing-related to manage: switching plans happens right in the app, as described above.

  1. Click your user menu (top-right corner of the app).
  2. Choose Manage subscription.
  3. The Billing Portal opens in a new tab. From there you can update your payment method, switch to a different plan or billing interval, download invoices and receipts, cancel your subscription, or renew a canceled one.

Manage subscription appears only after you have bought a subscription. Changes made in the portal are applied to your account automatically, usually within seconds.

Changing your plan

On a free trial? Switch plans directly in the app at no cost (see Plans & free trial). This section covers paid subscriptions.

You can switch between the Essential, Plus, and Ultimate plans, and between monthly and yearly billing, at any time from the Billing Portal.

Upgrading to a more expensive plan takes effect immediately. The charge is prorated: you receive credit for the unused time on your current plan and are charged for the new plan for the remainder of the current billing period. The prorated amount is invoiced right away, and the new price applies in full from the next renewal. Switching from monthly to yearly billing also takes effect immediately, with the same prorated credit for the unused portion of the current month.

Downgrading to a cheaper plan takes effect at the end of the billing period you've already paid for. You keep your current plan until then, nothing is charged or credited, and the new (lower) price applies from the next renewal. Switching from yearly to monthly billing works the same way: the change takes effect when your current yearly period ends.

The portal shows exactly what will change, any amount due, and when the change takes effect before you confirm.

Payments, receipts & failed payments

Each renewal is charged automatically to the card on file, and Paddle emails you a receipt with the invoice.

If a renewal payment fails, you don't lose access right away. Paddle emails you, and the app shows a banner: We couldn't process the latest payment. Access continues for now. Update the payment method to avoid losing access. Paddle retries the charge automatically over the following days. Use the banner's Update payment button (or the Billing Portal) to fix the card before the next attempt.

If the payment still can't be collected after the retries, the subscription ends and access stops; we send an email confirming it. You can subscribe again at any time.

Sales tax & invoices

Purchases are processed by Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record. Any applicable sales tax, VAT, or IGV is calculated automatically at checkout based on your location and shown before you confirm, included in the price or added to it in line with the practice of your country. Paddle handles collecting and remitting it to the tax authorities.

An invoice is issued for every payment. You'll find it in Paddle's receipt email, and you can download past invoices from the Billing Portal for your accounting.

We do not process tax-exemption certificates: tax is charged on all purchases, with no exceptions. If you have questions about the tax on your purchase, write to support@magicschedules.com.

Canceling & reactivating

  1. Open the Billing Portal (Manage subscription in your user menu).
  2. Choose to cancel the subscription and confirm.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for. You keep full access until then. We send a confirmation email with the exact end date, and the app shows a banner: The subscription has been canceled. Access ends on …

Changed your mind? Reactivate any time before the end date: use the banner's Reactivate button, the link in the confirmation email, or the renew option in the Billing Portal. Your subscription continues as if nothing happened.

Once a subscription ends, your data is deleted automatically after a period of time and cannot be recovered, as explained in the Terms of Service.
